Laura Karttunen is a doctoral student in Comparative Literature at the University of Tampere, Finland. Her dissertation will be a sociostylistic and socionarratological study of the fiction of Arundhati Roy, Salman Rushdie, and other Indian writers. She recently published an article on scapegoating in The God of Small Things in Taide ja taudit [Art and Illness, 2007], which she co-edited. She has also written (in Finnish) on David Sedarisís humor.
