Professor of English at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specializing in Old and Middle English literature, especially Chaucer. Among his books are The Legend of Job in the Middle Ages (Harvard, 1989), Chaucer and the Bible (Garland, 1996), Chaucer's Biblical Poetics (Univ. of Oklahoma, 1998), and a forthcoming essay collection entitled The Sacred and the Secular in Medieval and Early Modern Cultures: New Essays (St. Martin's, "New Middle Ages" series).
