Brian McHale is Humanities Distinguished Professor of English at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was for many years affiliated with the Department of Poetics & Comparative Literature and the Porter Institute for Poetics and Semiotics at Tel Aviv University. He was assistant editor and eventually co-editor of the journal Poetics Today. He is the author of Postmodernist Fiction (1987), Constructing Postmodernism (1992), and The Obligation toward the Difficult Whole (2004), and is co-editor, with Randall Stevenson, of the forthcoming Edinburgh Companion to Twentieth-Century Literatures in English.
